Karen + Kyle | Wedding | NYC City Hall

Usually when I get to the bride and groom on the day of the wedding they are busy getting ready – this time they were busy making breakfast for the family that came from all over US to spend that day with them:). After a delicious breakfast we all went down to city hall. The Gods of waiting lines obviously  likes Karen and Kyle as I have never seen such a short wait at City Hall – it literally took 10 minutes to get through the lines and into the chapel. The reception was at Savoy restaurant – which is a wonderful place with delicious food and a welcoming decor.  Aside from the intimate atmosphere of the entire event that day, the highlight (aside from the company of course) had to be the really cool, custom made, pop-up place cards that Karen and Kyle designed for all their guests (myself included – yay!).  The cards had beautiful cut outs of their favorite buildings in the New York City Skyline and some of you might remember that Kyle proposed with an equally fantastic pop-up book, which you can see from their engagement session.

Karen and Kyle – thanks so much for including me in your special and memorable day.  I loved getting to spend time with you and your family and wish you guys an incredible life together and a fun and adventurous journey in Europe.  Enjoy your photos and please keep in touch often!

Dorothy + Nick | Engagement | Liberty State Park, NJ

Dorothy and Nick get extra brownie points for waiting an hour while I was stuck in horrendous traffic trying to cross Manhattan. On the bright side the rainy weather had cleared up while I was stuck and by the time we started we had the most gorgeous light you could wish for:).  This was my first visit to Liberty State Park – but definitely not last – it is a beautiful location for almost any sort of outdoor shoot – and it comes with free parking:). I do wish access to the old train station was not restricted.  These two are super cool – Dorothy works in ER and Nick teaches Special Ed, both incredibly high-stress jobs.  You can’t tell from how laid back these two are though.  Oh…and, I loved Dorothy’s tattoos…

Dorothy and Nick, thanks so much for choosing such an awesome location and for being so patient that day!  It was wonderful to get to hang out with you two for a few hours and Natalia and I are super excited for your wedding next weekend!

Emily + Shir | Wedding | COSM Wappinger, New York

All weddings usually make us stop and think about just how lucky we are to witness the coming together of two people in love. Two people, who are willing to give this thing called marriage, which thrives on commitment, patience and understanding of imperfection – a chance.  Because after all, when we get married we all take a chance.  And then, there are weddings where the energy of not just the couple, but of their entire community of family and friends is so powerful that you forget chance and see necessity.  Necessity for ceremonies such as the one Emily and Shir had at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in Wappinger, NY about two weeks ago.  Necessity for tradition that is personified and doesn’t discriminate and necessity for reflection and celebration, without disillusion.  In so many words – there are those weddings that make one realize or remember what marriage really is and what it really should be about!

Emily and Shir’s wedding was such a fantastic event, with so many parts to it – each essential to their day and their story, that the following blog post will include a few “sections” in effort to tell that story as best we can.  Despite the length of this blog post (very long:)!) its impossible to show everything, so here are some reasons why we think this day and these two are pretty darn special:

  • Emily is a dancer and Shir a musician.  A great part of their friends and family are involved in music, dance and art… need we say more?!!
  • During the Shabbat Kallah and the Tisch, where Emily and Shir were greeted by their community, the air was filled with so much positive and happy energy, that it was almost electrifying and Natalia and I had smiles on our faces the whole time!
  • The ceremony incorporated blessings, prayers, readings and music that were incredibly heartfelt and spiritually charged!
  • The vows!!!  The combination of Emily’s spoken vows and Shir’s song gave such a strong glimpse into the relationship of these two people.  Probably the most personal vows we have witnessed to date.
  • One of our favorite moments of the ceremony was the acknowledgement by Emily and Shir of the fact that their cup of joy is not quite as full, knowing that the world has yet to extend marriage rights to all couples.
  • And then there was dancing – lots and lots of dancing (including some “belly” dancing;)) – and beautiful speeches, singing, toasting and then … MORE dancing …

Emily and Shir – we so thoroughly and tremendously enjoyed your special day – thank you!  We wish you two dance through your life together in the most fulfilling and adventurous ways.   And now finally … on to the photos …

Jessica + Ryan | Wedding | Bubby’s, Brooklyn

You may remember this lawyer to be and his beautiful opera singer from their recent engagement session and the fun story of how we all met.  Jess and Ryan got married at a perfect location, The Pebble Beach at the Brooklyn Bridge Park.  The spot is right between the two downtown bridges with stunning views and inches from the water.  One of the most beautiful places in New York City!

Although the guys opted not to do a First Look, photos were important to them and while the guests enjoyed some cocktails at their historic reception restaurant, Bubby’s we got to have some fun together…not to mention, get to have the best part of the meal (which is dessert if you ask me) first – courtesy of a NYC Ice Cream Truck:).  Jess and Ryan totally made it on to our “favorite people” list by doing an evening portrait shoot with us after their wedding.  That’s right – they sent all their guests off to the after-party to spend some more time with us, because we are just that cool:).

Jess and Ryan – we hope you are partying it up on your honeymoon cruise and celebrating your birthdays in style.  You sure deserve it!  We loved spending time with you at your wedding and are so happy for you two.  Can you believe it – You Are Married:)!!!  Jess, we hope your dad will forgive us for the fact that your after-party happened without you.  We think it was totally worth it though – you both look fantastic!  Can’t wait to see you guys soon…
